Overview

Points give each person a “budget” to “spend” on items—closer family might get more points, for example. No-points mode skips that entirely: it’s pure ranking and dibs. Maybe you want to reflect inheritance shares with points, or maybe your family prefers a simpler “everyone ranks, dibs break ties” approach.

Points Mode

  • You assign a point value to each asset.
  • Each member gets a point budget (you can set by tier: children get X, grandchildren get Y).
  • The algorithm assigns items so people stay within their budget.
  • Good when you want to mirror legal shares or give some people more “purchasing power.”

No-Points Mode

  • No budgets, no point values.
  • Members rank items and call dibs.
  • The algorithm uses tier, ranking, dibs, and tiebreakers (age, value balance, etc.) to decide.
  • Simpler to explain and works well when everyone’s on equal footing.

Choose based on whether you need to reflect unequal shares or keep it straightforward.
