Overview

When two people want the same item and they’re in the same tier with similar rankings, something has to break the tie. Simple mode uses three automatic rules. Advanced lets you pick which rules apply. Expert adds weight sliders so you can fine-tune. Maybe you’re happy with “oldest gets it” as a default, or maybe you want to favor sentimental connections.

Simple Mode

  • Three built-in tiebreakers: ranking priority, dibs status, random selection.
  • No configuration. Works for most families.
  • Best when you want to set it and forget it.

Advanced Mode

  • Eight tiebreakers total. Enable or disable each one.
  • Drag to reorder—the first applicable rule wins.
  • Options include: age/birth order, value balance, sentimental connection, category balance, item count balance.
  • Good for families with specific preferences.

Expert Mode

  • Everything in Advanced, plus weight sliders (0–100) for each rule.
  • The algorithm combines scores by weight.
  • For mediators or families who want maximum control.

Start with Simple; upgrade if you need more nuance.
