Overview

Dollars mode uses real (or estimated) dollar values—each person has a budget and “spends” it on items. Points mode uses abstract points you assign. Both create a budget constraint; the difference is whether you want dollar amounts visible or not. Maybe you’re matching legal inheritance shares, or maybe you want to keep money out of the conversation.

Dollars

  • Assign a dollar value to each asset.
  • Members get a dollar budget.
  • Algorithm assigns so people stay within budget.
  • Transparent if you’re matching probate values.

Points

  • You assign point values (1–100, 1–1000, whatever scale you choose).
  • Members get point budgets.
  • Same idea as dollars, but the numbers are abstract.
  • Useful when you don’t want to talk actual money.

Pick whichever fits your family’s comfort level.
