Overview

Dibs are your “must-haves”—items you’re claiming with extra weight. When you call dibs, you get a boost in the algorithm (and you have to explain why). Maybe it’s grandma’s necklace you wore at your wedding, or the painting that hung in your childhood room. Dibs say: this one really matters to me.

The Deal

  • You get a limited number (often 3 per person).
  • You must write a reason for each. “Because I want it” won’t cut it.
  • Dibs give you priority over non-dibbers in the same tier.
  • The executor can review and remove frivolous dibs.

Use them wisely. Save dibs for items you’d be genuinely upset to lose.
