Overview

Want to get the most out of the distribution? A few habits go a long way. Maybe you’re new to the process, or you want to avoid common slip-ups.

During Ranking

  1. Be honest—rank in your true order of preference.
  2. Rank plenty of items—gives you more chances.
  3. Mix high and low value—don’t just pick expensive stuff.
  4. Consider others—this is about family, not just value.

When Calling Dibs

  1. Use sparingly—you only get 3.
  2. Write meaningful comments—explain why it matters.
  3. Be genuine—sentimental value counts.
  4. Think long-term—will you actually use or cherish this?

If Disputing

  1. Have a good reason—not just “I want it more.”
  2. Be specific—reference family history, connections.
  3. Suggest solutions—don’t just complain.
  4. Be patient—reviews take time.

Your participation matters. Rank thoughtfully, dibs wisely, and dispute respectfully when needed.
